17837 228 Post Malibu/SanO Notes 1 ilparadosso Sep 26, 2008 2008-09-26T06:11:49-0400 It was great to see everyone at Malibu. I got a couple of great waves. Thanks to Andersonfan for letting me try the JFII. Mario and Co. nice to finally see you guys, Little Al, I saw you as I was going in, maybe we'll be properly introduced next time. Dewey, good to see you out there so soon after your surgery, Bobby, It was fun seeing you and "Nadine" on your home turf. I'm running on ~ 45 min. of sleep so sorry if I'm forgetting someone. I won't be there Sat. or Sun. hope you guys have a great time. Sorry if I dropped in on anyone,I tried not to (except for my last wave and that punk shortboarder ). Hope everyone got good waves as the tide lowered. Steve

17844 228 Post Malibu/SanO Notes 3 andersonfan Sep 27, 2008 2008-09-27T03:30:01-0400 Yes, good times had by all. I am glad we finally had a decent swell for you guys to enjoy, just wish we had enjoyed a better tide for it. Mario got one of the waves of the day for his first wave, and everyone else seem to have a blast as well. I was paddling back out after a fun one when Steve (ilparadosso) came screaming through in the pocket with a mini-pig dog working; wish I had a camera for the shot- he had one hand on his outside rail, the other tucked into the wave, completely backlit with the green wall setting up in front and whitewater coming down on his shoulder. That would have stayed on the homepage of our website. Thanks to all who made the trip, let's do it again next year! AF

17879 228 Post Malibu/SanO Notes 7 surflugen Sep 29, 2008 2008-09-29T03:55:31-0400 I went down on Saturday to take some photos but it was the most drab day for surf photography I have seen down there. Early there was a few clean waves but the fog and the tide really did not make it exceptional. I still had fun. Sorry I did not have much time to hang out with you all. My kids, especially my toddler, was in great form finding a whole new level of screaming that had me almost pull my hair out. While my wife surfed her sessions, I had planned to walk down and hang out but both times was too short lived and my kids would have rather just hung out in the camper. As for the surf. I hope you all had fun. I am horrible with names and faces so I hope I did not get in anyones way of having fun in the water at Old Mans. It was too mushy in the morning anyway. My third session in the afternoon, I paddled out to 4-Doors and had it all to myself. Everyone out there was sitting inside for some reason. Next year we are definitely going to camp so we can hang out and meet with all of you very interesting characters. Saturday was our first day trip to San'O in our recently purchased 76 Dodge 24' camper and it worked out great. BTW. Whose family was affiliated with that raffle? I was really impressed with there effort and the message they got out. It seemed they rallied up a good some and I hope they did. Wish I had more cash to give - I really wanted that board.

17898 228 Post Malibu/SanO Notes 11 surfore Sep 29, 2008 2008-09-29T06:04:51-0400 Okay here’s a story (yes everyone who was there the first night heard this): I like to leave for the weekend a bit early so I can take my time coming down the coast, settle in, relax and get in a few weekdays of surf. I arrived at the San Mateo campsite about 5 on Thursday and set up my air mattress and beer - that's how I camp. The only other group in the entire ring, 140 something through 157, were a few guys in 155 who were sitting around listening to some horrible light jazz - ya know alto saxy Kenny G shit. I figured it must be the Texans so I walked over but it was dark and didn’t recognize anyone from the group. In a self-deprecating way I said, "Hey are you part of the internet nerd surf group?" They said no they were not nerds but did surf and asked if I wanted to join them around the fire. I introduced myself and realize, after my eyes adjusted, that the David who is shaking my hand is David Nuuhiwa and a few of his buddies. By the time I joined them they had a bit of a heat on already, I think they were drinking beer and a bit of wine too, but I had an unopened bottle of Knob Creek (Mongo gave me for my bday) and asked if they wanted a pull. We passed the bottle around and about an hour or two later the bottle was about 2/3 gone. David couldn't stand up, I was buzzed but able to move and then the talk of smoking a joint came up. One of the guys passed David, what he thought was a joint, and David went to light it but then pointed out, under closer inspection with a lit ciggie, that the joint was not a joint but a peanut shell. It was about that time when Benny and Snoop Donkey Log showed up and then Mongo and his buddy Jordon. I bid the trio a good night and proceeded to kill the rest of the bottle with the new comers and pass out in my truck. At about 2 am I woke up to find my air mattress had deflated and I was now sleeping on the wonderfully soft bed liner of my pick up. I pulled out the mattress and inflated it again, all the while looking over my shoulder for mou…

I believe there was a large group of your guys at San-O this last weekend. I met quite a bunch of them and found them to be really nice guys. But what I was really impressed by was how clean you guys left the beach, I came back on Sunday and except for a few forgotten toys the beach was spotless, good job. I'm not sure what I would have to do to join your group or if I would qualify but me and my friends look forward to seeing you guys next year. Once again, thanks for leaving the beach so clean I know its hard to do with that many people!!!

And everyone with a computer knew it. Sat the wait in line was twice as long as it was at the same time in the morning on Sunday. I took off work on Monday thru Friday and surfed Malibu a total of 8 go outs. I didn't even get wet on the weekend. I did have a ball hanging with all of the guys. Good people good booze good food, and a good time was had by all. Nedsurf said to me " I keep waiting for some real butt hole to show up for one of these but it just never seems to happen." I was paddleing for a wave and some guy said are you little al, I said yes and missed a paddle so I missed the wave and I think you caught the next wave of the set. 17985 228 Post Malibu/SanO Notes 67 grush Oct 1, 2008 2008-10-01T06:06:08-0400 Now that I have a little time, I wanted to give a few shout outs to everyone who made it out to Malibu and/or SanO. Special thanks to Miles for loaning me not just a board, but all the gear when the airline lost my luggage. Anderson Fan for providing security at Malibu. Big thanks to Mark for diner at the Rib Trader. I still don't know how Pawdy finished all those f'in ribs!!! And to Graham and his wife for once again taking time to supply breakfast on Saturday morning. Nothing like eating a hot off the grill bacon and egg breakfast on the beach. You guys rock! (Oh, sorry for throwing the frisbee too hard to your son.) Nedsurf, thanks for getting the permit. And thanks to whoever set up the banner. Little Al for the stone soup. Mario for setting up the museum tour. Bill at VW Surfari who rented me a van and still gave me a discount for bringing in referals despite the fact that I dented it up real good at LAX. This guy is a prince! And thanks to everyone, JD, Lonedog, Ben, Mike, Scout, Jason, Silk, Mario's crew, Ed, Pawdy, Andrew, Jim Phillips etc... for being just a great bunch of guys and girls who I would be proud to have as locals at my break. In know I'm forgetting some people here and that's mostly due to the fact that I killed some short-term memory at the camp fire Saturday night with Bushmills and beer. (Thanks again, Pawdy. Hope your leg feels better. I'm coming to Ireland and making you try Bushmills and Jamison side by side.) I can't wait to see you all, and some new faces, next year. As the season wears on here on the East Coast, I look forward to getting out to San O to remember what it is the brought me to surfing, and longboarding in particular, in the first place: a chance to have fun and escape the pressures of life, if only for a little while, and to share it with equally stoked travelers. Oh, and to my new friend from San Dieago: Yea, I will take that bong hit for the road! Be safe everyone, I don't want to have to award you the stomp pad next year! See you …

18001 228 Post Malibu/SanO Notes 70 surfore Oct 1, 2008 2008-10-01T15:59:21-0400 Yeah a big thanks to Mark for dinner, Mongo for the hat, diet coke, triscuits, almonds, Benny for the beer and pistacios, Log Donkey for spooning, Scott for the filthy coffee cup, Kuk Not Kook for the coffee, Vegaluca for being so white you burning so nicely that I was able to act like a 10 yearold and slap that lobster back, Zeph for the wax, Al for allowing me to stash my stuff in your truck while I killed it at Malibu, Mark for not killing us to and from getting ribs, Mario for my rum which I sadly left on the picnic table for some fortunate camper Saturday afternoon, the GT's for breakfast and some real aloha spirit, Tom for being patient with your board arrival, Ed for not crying too hard, Nuuhiwa for trying to smoke a peanut shell, Miles for the screwdriver, wax comb, sun screen, and whatever else I could get my hands on from your truck while you weren't looking, Jimbob for taking a day off and dragging Ian out to hang all afternoon, Don for busting up your knee so you didn't hog all the waves, Sho for letting me go for a few days to charge my batteries. It was great to meet all of you. Next year I'm staying all weekend. Lucky you.
18002 228 Post Malibu/SanO Notes 71 nedsurf Oct 2, 2008 2008-10-02T01:46:42-0400 Best time I've ever had at the beach not surfing:X (except for that after-hours beach blanket bingo with a young lady in '66 at Dana). Good to see some of you again, and meet some new folks. And GT - I think he is just trying to be nice cooking breakfast cause he knows his kids are going to be taking all the waves in a few years.
18004 228 Post Malibu/SanO Notes 72 mro87 Oct 2, 2008 2008-10-02T04:11:34-0400 I'm finally back in PR after a great time in Cali. It was good to see old friends and meet a couple of new ones. A few notes: Al's soup this year was spectacular. Nothing new here as it has been spectacular for the last couple of years. Tentoesed can hang ten, and... drink a Puertorican under the table, no small feat. Logdonkey a close second. Easygoing award of the weekend... lots of worthy candidates, but Vegaluca takes it home. Happy he was surfing, happy he was drinking, happy when he was hurt... Boardfest. I tried a lot of boards. Have to say that there were two highlights: 10 foot Bing Trimulux, which Miles had to pry from my hands when he left, and a Jacobs that I took from Margaret. Tried and enjoyed a couple of Coops, the Austin and a couple other boards. Rode a beautifull Coop Chris Vail that Jason brought. It was beautifull enough to kill for. BTW, for the record, no bias in my review of the Bing/Jacobs, they just worked great for me in the conditions we had (small). Caught waves easily and early, trimmed great, stable croos stepping and stable on the nose= nice long rides. Caught the smallest wave I have ever caught in Malibu on the Jacobs. Probably ankle high and still was able to cross step to the nose and do a five. No small feat as I am not that good a noserider. Board that did not ride that really wanted to (for the second year in a row)- Fade to Black. Tried the longboard ribs, could not finish them even after having 4 surf sessions in a day. This brings me to food: Pedro's Tacos, Pipe's breakfast burritos, Rib Trader's ribs, Surfing Donuts donuts. Enough said. Surf Celebrities: Saw Skip Fry, Allan Sarlo (spelling?), Carlos and Raul surfed with Pickle Warren, met and talked to Terry Martin in his shaping bay, Matt Calvani, Jim Phillips, Zeph, Lonedog, etc.., etc... Adam (Bing) is going to be a surf celebrity. Saw him surfing on Saturday and he was mind blowing. Breaks- Malibu on Friday was good and go…

18020 228 Post Malibu/SanO Notes 82 Mango Bill Oct 3, 2008 2008-10-03T01:39:51-0400 Monday was a weird day weather was all over the place we rolled up to point and one minute the wind was off shore and then a front moved in and it started raining, then it went glassy and no wind and back to "The point by the Lake" chop slop. There was a giant gust that lifted the blue label V-pin off the roof like a leaf and as someone said the glass job on the cooperdesigns in solid only one small snackle after the flight of the v-pin:shock:. Couple guys in little red car pulled up think one was robbie kegal and proceeded to wake and bake with a bong, can't remember last time i saw a bong think it was 80 somehting .Then this kidnapper van rolled up with a guy that looked familliar from surf movies,so I asked if he was tyler warren and it was we shot the bull with him and he showed us his new hobie with this crazy fin. He made the surf look good so we wen't in and shortly there after the curse of the Laketards turned it to windy slop Frozenbolt checkin it What it looked like Pickle and his friend checkin the surf after the flight of the v-pin,got say he is one of the niceest guys,no attitude on him,he was stoked to see some lake surf picks I had on my camera and talk about lake surf and his travels. He showed his newest colabaration with terry martin,I think it was 9'6" pintail nose rider The fin Got some cover shots of him surfing,I love his smooth style,no herky jerky movment just the most flowing smooth style fun to watch. After we got out of the "Point by the Lake" we diecided to check out some surf shops as the wind was up big time and we had a hankerin for Pedros Tacos, but before we left we had another" Brush with a Surf Celebrity." 18024 228 Post Malibu/SanO Notes 84 Mango Bill Oct 3, 2008 2008-10-03T02:41:49-0400 Last day for us was Tuesday we had to surf then drive up to longbeach/carson to drop off boards then make it back to orange county airport to drop off the VW camper so the plan was morning session at old mans for the left and on the way.Nice how plans go south when the weather and surf align,The left at old mans was crowded and lots of rubber duckies on the inside I swear to god I thought I speared this guy on the V-pin who just watched me drop stright down on him with no attempte to paddle over the wave or even move:shock:.After the second one of those I moved down to inside high tide dogpatch and caught a bunch little zippers to end my last session on a high note.We got to cook the last of the eggs and hit the road before noon but the sun was out in all it's glory and Skip Frye was making the rights south of the point look so good we paddled out for a trunking session to end the trip on.We ran in to skip three times over the trip and he was good to talk to and fun to watch surf his style is all "Skip Frye" fifty pluss years of surfing and one day he was on his 7th session and this day we saw him change boards at least twice. The drive north in the heat wave in a non airconditioned van was sweaty but a good way to end the summer as we came home to low 60's temps with overnight lows in the 30's but came home to a good northwest wind swell and got some zippy sanbar lefts to welcome me back to the "Land of Laketards" Oldmans in the morning Skip Frye styling's The welcome home surf Good to see all the Longboard.net nerds and meet some new ones had a great time as usual and can't wait to do it again next year Mango Bill

18027 228 Post Malibu/SanO Notes 86 little AL Oct 3, 2008 2008-10-03T03:41:15-0400 Well first off he found my son's favorite rock at Malibu. My son hit it some many time I ended up putting a wooden nose on his board. At SanO his board hit him in the calf and put what was going to be a real nice bruise on, I could see it starting to change color on Sat night. I told him to ice it but he spend his time hanging with the guy and having a bit of the malt, and barley, oh ya some of the sugar cane also. Soon the pain was gone but the morning brought pains in more then one part of the body. Great guy he really has the stoke, and fit right into the group tho he does talk a little funny. Grush was kind of pushing it but he's really a nice guy once you weedwack down through that beard and get to know him. And I dont think you should give that Hansen to Pat; you seemed to be having too much fun riding it. And the only good story I have is of Mango telling me "in the lakes, once that ice breaks off the shore, turns into slush and floats to the outside, its just like kelp. It helps to glass off the waves." Very non-chalant about it too. Funny.

18039 228 Post Malibu/SanO Notes 90 tentoesed Oct 4, 2008 2008-10-03T21:23:33-0400 Hey Don, thanks for posting the clip. I had hoped to see the "hanging calf" take but I guess it never got snapped. Sorry you didn't get more of Scout (she's such a good surfer.) but she just kept getting stuffed. (The reason I stayed in the "kiddie pool".) I'd really be remiss not to thank grush and GT for offering their help to me to get to Malibu, but as it turned out Sneakytermite (Dat) not only drove Don (nedsurf) and me to Malibu, but brought us sandwiches as well. (That guy is really a great guy!) Then, we got a ride back in the marvelous, "Miles' Magical Mystery Mobile Museum of Memorable Mystic Movers of the Maritime", otherwise known as THE STOKEMOBILE! Miles, you're the supernova of stoke! Unfortunately, I ripped my foot on a rock at Malibu which later blew up with some kind of infection, and also tweaked my back which started to spazz out, so I hardly surfed with you guys at SanO at all. I did however, get the pleasure to surf with Matt and Margaret for a short time, despite being impaired by my maladies. I was also able to be out there with John, Miles, Mario, and a few others. Just wished I could have surfed longer and been able to surf Sunday with all of the others that I missed. (I also wished I could have surfed the STD, Zeph's boards, along with a few others, but I was just ailing too much.) Then there was Sat. night. Well, that soup that Al made was amazing! Thanks Al. and then, well, things just just get kind of fuzzy after that. (the "after that" was mixing the Irish whiskey with the P.R. rum after a couple of beers. And then words just started to slide out of my mouth like smeared pre-school finger paintings. However, I must say, that despite my condition, I still remember the friends I enjoyed chatting with (Benny, Logdonkey, Mario and his friends, JD, Miles and others.) and I especially appreciated Veraluca, Frozenbolt, and GT's discussion at the end of the evening. Thanks to all. I know there are other things I left out with other people, but these come fir…
