This is by an artist named David Lloyd www.davidlloydsurfart.com The original photo (from which this was adapted) was of Blue Makua, I believe. Enjoy the World Cup Final. Eric Attached files |

Spent a fair amount of time surfing with Russ and Bryan when I lived in LA. He just gets the California landscape and vibe in my opinion, and is a pretty damn good kneeboarder to boot: http://russellcrotty.com/surf.html One of my treasured possessions is a monoprint of the spot where I learned to surf. |

This could open the door to another dimension or create a black hole or something like that. If you take a picture of a picture does it effect the Earth in any way? Perhaps a slight imbalance to the axis or a reversal and or minimizing of the Coriolis force? We should not fool with nature and/or science like this. |

Wow. That painting brings back amazing memories. Poles was my main surf break my freshman year at UCSB. It was a three minute walk from my dorm room door. Called "Poles" because the Marine Biology Department had lodged a series of poles to collect and tag different species, it was a separate break on the inside of the actual "Campus Point" break. It's a reasonably consistent cobblestone break and every blue moon, there would be a big enough NW with serious wrap energy that it would make the waves at Poles absolutely reel down this long, sandy right hand point into Goleta Beach. If the swell was angled right, you could get rides of 200+ yards. A short left would sometimes work and one of my first pure in-and-out tubes was there....fall of '83. Another surfer was paddling back out as I came out of this head-high barrel and hooted me. Stoked! I also have vivid memories of another day in the early spring of '84, riding my Local Motion 7'6" Pat Rawson shaped custom mini-tanker and just flying on a right down the point. This wave was so perfect, glassy, a foot or so overhead, but here I was, a goofy foot on another right hand California point break (I know, I know.....I'll f*ck off now ). It took all the courage I had to think I could switch my stance....but I had to try. And I did. And I made it....my first right where I was actually facing the wave. I did some pretty tame rollercoasters on my way down the beach, and a couple hundred yards later, I was just amped out of my gourd. Both that I went for it and that it actually worked out. If I had fallen, I may have never tried switching stance again. But I did and I do it to this day, re-inspired many years ago by CJ Nelson. I must have been skipping unconsciously back up the beach. Whoo hoo! Thanks for jogging the thought! Eric … |

Right now I'm drinking a fine vintage 2010 Le Tieff Cab/Merlot Costco bottled in an elegant cardboard box (I'm sure Tentoes Ed would approve). But unlike the fine art that's been exhibited here I doubt the wine I'm drinking will do any favors to my head at O'dark thirty when I get up to make a several hour drive to the surf...................but I digress. My favored artist is Ken Auster. My wife gave me the following for a significant B'day years ago. Another favorite artist that I luv is Alan Casagrande out of Ponto Beach. Check him out at www. bongobaystudios.com Hopefully the pic of the Auster comes through. I am no Ansel Adams. Dp Attached files Image processing. Refresh page to view |

I left the board with a plain plywood deck for local PNW artist, Jesse Joshua Watson to paint in early last September before I went to Australia...No worries, no hurries...I picked it up this week... The bottom is Afromosia and Fir veneers...Rails Cork & Ply...I still need to glass it...It's gonna be a quad... It's the third board in an ongoing series of me producing a HWS veneer bottom "canvas'", then turning it over to an artist to complete the deck...These boards get glassed and built to ride... So far the artist's I've worked with are stoked to do something different...Most artists have a preferred medium and style...Most of the time their painting is on a flat canvas...They recognize that painting onto a hand built wood board is more unique than painting a canvas or even a foam blank...It just is... We also see these projects as a way of threading together other artists through a "common canvas"...I put no expectations on the art or the time to get it done...It's fun to see what emerges from diverse artists...All of those I've worked with so far said they are honored to do these boards and it has elevated their work... Artists interested in collaboration can contact me through my website... Paul Jensen www.hollowsurfboards.com ... http://hollowsurfboards.blogspot.com |

Kinda complex, but the short version is epoxy resin, cloth, glass and more resin. Etching has to be done properly to get the bond needed to keep it all together. There are numerous ways to get the end result, but mine seem stay clear and last the longest. |
