108976 3331 Show me your racks! 1 hangeleven Jan 2, 2017 2017-01-02T15:14:06-0500 New Years resolution to finally organize my boards -- looking for racks and storage solution ideas -- home depot stuff preferred. I have somewhat limited space in a locked shed about 11' long by 6' high by 3' deep. Right now things are stashed and stacked all over the place, under the house - storage units, etc and i get more dings out of the water than when surfing. Looking for cheap, functional, fast, easy, solid solutions. Not wallhanger museum options.

I built something similar and I suck at building anything from wood. If you are a fabricator then square stock welded with pipe insulation foam like the glassine storage racks.

The ceiling racks wouldn't work for you, but I threw them in anyway in case someone else needed an idea. I didn't do the ceiling racks myself, but if you were handy, you could do it. The PVC and wood racks I did and they are easy. Hope this helps!!

Redwood - aluminum and two bags of quickset Was in a rush because they are temp and serve only for a quick resting spot before basement storage - out of the sun. The 1st rung is the only level one. 109028 3331 Show me your racks! 20 PeakMaster Jan 3, 2017 2017-01-03T07:53:34-0500 Is it a wood or metal shed? I have seen some creative solutions for the lightweight steel sheds where wood is cut to fit inside the metal stud channels, screw in and than brackets screwed into the wood.

109030 3331 Show me your racks! 22 Bighouse Jan 3, 2017 2017-01-03T08:38:13-0500 Bummed my pics aren't embedding. I have a grandfathered aluminum shed(on my property line) that needs to be rebuilt in the same footprint (10x10). It has a Swiss cheese roof and a family of mice. I figured on putting the racks on the right side of the shed 8'x2.5'x10'(deep) with either a half wall or a partition to block lawn mowers, chain saws, garden tools that I plan on keeping in there as well. I thought a separate door would look funky, but would be convenient to load the boards from the driveway instead of in and around the door. Let me know what you think! Still a few years from the shed making the priority list.
109033 3331 Show me your racks! 23 Chilly Willy Jan 3, 2017 2017-01-03T09:29:31-0500 It's a little tough to see details, but here's what I've got: shelving rails (twin slotted for extra strength) paired with the longest shelf brackets I could find. I think the brackets were maybe 20" long or possibly more. I wrapped each bracket with foam pipe insulation for padding, and I added some to other hard surfaces like the exposed rails or underside of the workbench on the far wall. I also have a third shelving rail that runs vertically around the middle to hold shorter boards (see the fish just above the boogie) in the spot where I would otherwise be unable to fit a longboard. It has served me well for about 10 years now. I've added brackets as necessary, but I also stack boards when possible. (Credit goes to NJLongboarder -- I believe I poached this rack idea from him if memory serves correctly.) Pros: easy to install, adjustable to fit a changing quiver or different racking configurations. Cons: shelf brackets can wobble side-to-side a little bit I also got tired of moving a midrange board to get to some of my other boards, so I whipped up a little hanging spot from the rafters with some spare materials that I had lying around the shed. I sawed a plank in half to get two small boards, wrapped it in foam pipe insulation, tacked the insulation in place with some finishing nails, and strung it all up with hook screws. It's far from perfect, but it did the job and only cost me the time to build it.

Bought these off a kid who made two sets one for a now defunct surf shop an one for himself from stainless steel in his Dad's boatyard. Could withstand a 1kt blast I recon… won't be rusting out anytime soon.

Click to expand... Got in one very short session at Bolsa Chica with the Choate, but the swell was already pretty played out. I thought it was going to be a big floaty beast perfect for small mushy waves, but it turns out to be a really elegant, slightly piggish glider with a tapered (not quite step-) deck at the nose and tail. Unlike the 11-foot, very thin Christenson fishsimmons I used to have, this has enough foam to support me. In the right conditions, I think it'll be a blast. Is there a benefit to storing your boards vertically or horizontally? I mainly have longboards and was concerned that storing heavy boards a certain way could damage them. But all in all some very nice racks and giving me some good ideas on how to build my own.

I copied that design and fabricated with PVC pipe and two floor flanges screwed into the ceiling joists. Worked ok but if I were to do it again, I'd use metal conduit...ssme design.

We just moved to the house with 100% wall and ceiling concrete garage and looks like I need a freestanding rack. After looking at some manufactured rack prices I think I better invest in a welder and some square tubing. Would be a basic machine from HD or HF sufficient? Haven't weld in 20 years lol
