Got to give him credit for all the amount of work he puts in and he surfs ok but one wonders wether he actually enjoys himself constantly thinking about weight distribution and what angle he should hold his arms....... but geez that would piss me off he turned up while I was having a surf with the drone and cameras. The internet is full of these people now who spoil it for everyone else whilst they get their one minute of fame or 10,000.00 you tube followers. Most of these surf Nerds have no idea about etiquette or how their behaviour affects others enjoyment....no doubt he has already been told. He would argue he is helping 1000s of newbies around the world get into the sport whilst making a buck. |

Don't know if he does it for every video, but of the handful I watched he did it. Than he uses his drone in case someone wasn't quite sure. It's an asshole move by any measure. I'm not going to link the videos where he's done it that I've seen because than I'd be paying his shit forward. |

Although I just don't think he knows any better. I think a majority of us grew up as surfing being a territorial activity. But with cams and social media and the influx of new people I am not sure if it exists anymore. Now for my channel I personally do not call spots and keep it as a if you know you know situation. But a few things to add to this. A: The amount of people that live on the west coast of this country that call spots on a video platform is insane so be grateful we don't have that. B: I know all the spots that he surfs and I have never seen him in person. So I don't know when the hell he is getting the content. I also have not noticed it being any more crowded because of his channel. Also he doesn't really surf that great of spots lol. C: New Jersey has a long long long coastline. There is enough for everybody and most the time unless there is a wind change it looks around the same within a 5 mile area. D: unfortunately for me homeboy is surfing pretty good so I can't even talk shit on his style and or ability. Honestly if I had a heat against him I would be pretty nervous. BUT... I also feel all feels that you guys do. Also @Chilly Willy I apologize if your talking about me with my channel. Again I never say where but I may have shown a landmark or two. It drives me insane how many followers he has but to a beginner surfer looking to get into Longboarding his content is pretty good. Of coarse again growing up in a time with no surf camps and surfing kinda being a outsider activity, I kinda had to learn all this shit on my own. Anyway thats my take on this whole thing if anyone gives a shit. |

Not saying it's this guy, but I've found and surfed spots I never would have while traveling because of overly specific YouTube videos… whether that's a good or bad thing is up to you, but you can't say spots haven't became more crowded because of it. One of many reasons my homebreak enforces a very strict no camera policy |

Click to expand... I had this thought too. When I started obsessively surfing in my 20s, I read the Surfline Travel website as if it were the Bible and I was a death row inmate desperately repenting. I took mental notes on all the hot spots up and down the NJ coastline, along with best swell/wind/tide conditions and everything else. If I were still a Boy Scout, I would have certainly earned my Surf Spot Knowledge merit badge for all my research. All details were laid out in front of me with minimal effort. I'd say that is worse than anything I've seen on social media. Maybe not even that big of a deal: I only picked up maybe 4-5 new spots, one of which was local to me anyway. The other 3-4 are spots that I still surf, but probably only once every year or two. I think social media is just the next stepping stone in a long and winding path of spot spoiling. Bruce Brown started by naming a ton of spots around the world. In the 80s/90s, I learned some key breaks from a "top 10 surf spots" article in the Asbury Park Press (a local newspaper). In the 2000s, I studied those Surfline Travel pages. Nowadays you've got surf cams, Instagram, YouTube, and whatever other platforms I'm too old to know about. |

The editing equipment and such can be expensive, not too mention the time that is put into putting out weekly content. I have seen clips of zoom calls with some longboard surfer from Australia as well. His reach is pretty far, but I don't see anyone jumping on a plane to come surf NJ based on this footage. |

I would have thought easily accessible surf cams, daily reports and long range forecasts with more people surfing post covid than ever before would be more to blame for crowding lineups and naming breaks. Google Earth and satellite imagery is surely as culpable as anything or anyone else. It’s the world we live in and good luck to the guy for making a living from his vids. Start at the top and blame search engines and social media platforms and drone manufacturers and a need for validation in this age of digital oversharing. This posting has let me know that if I pay care attention there are clues to good spots to surf in NJ not to mention a few cool tips on how to improve my longborting. P.S. I have surfed Michael's spot. I cant tell if I saw it in the how to noseride video. do all NJ surfs pots look the same? |

I would have thought easily accessible surf cams, daily reports and long range forecasts with more people surfing post covid than ever before would be more to blame for crowding lineups and naming breaks.
