5039 70 2006 San O Weekend 16 012 Jul 29, 2006 2006-07-29T05:35:00-0400 Guys, I just got accepted into the executive MBA program at UCI. Semester opens Tuesday September 19th with a "residential" (at the Irvine Marriott - of all places!). It lasts untill 11:00am Sunday September 24th. That means my campsite (151), reserved for the 22nd and 23rd, will not be occupied. It is available for anyone who needs it. I hope you guys are sticking around for Sunday, otherwise I will miss the entire sheebang. Rats. Maybe I can sneak out at night and share a few beers around the campfire........ GT
5041 70 2006 San O Weekend 17 Benny Jul 29, 2006 2006-07-29T05:58:57-0400 GT, I'll definitely be surfing Sunday am before driving out...and if you can sneak away I'll have enough refreshments for you. Heck, you're getting an MBA - I know you'll return the favor later
5048 70 2006 San O Weekend 18 nedsurf Jul 29, 2006 2006-07-29T08:45:08-0400 GT - congrats. That's a problem I never had to face. I am sure that I will be around on Sunday, the 24th. Probably won't be camping, but if the site is going to go empty maybe I'll reconsider. Don't forget your beer options also include Sunday. You going to make it to the water tomorrow?
5052 70 2006 San O Weekend 19 012 Jul 29, 2006 2006-07-29T13:09:38-0400 Nedsurf Definitely tomorrow. Been cranky all day today as I got back form the East Coast late last night and did not surf today. That plus figuring out I was going to miss the San O weekend made me one unhappy puppy. Tomorrow for sure. DP. The family is going. Breakfast at the beach after a 2 or 3 hours good surfing. Yum - bacon eggs and Pacifico at San O. GT
5055 70 2006 San O Weekend 20 Murph Jul 29, 2006 2006-07-29T15:18:24-0400 If it's still available (if nedsurf does'nt need it) I'll take the site off your hands. I was going to get around to making a reservation and never did. I can probably talk Swellseacher into sharing the site with me. Let me know what you paid and I'll have Swellshearcher send you the money. Let me know

5220 70 2006 San O Weekend 41 nedsurf Aug 2, 2006 2006-08-02T08:18:37-0400 Last year we had Greg Hunt attend to discuss his boards and that seemed to add benefit to the weekend. In my discussions with Hank Byzak I mentioned that we are doing the SanO thing and he indicated that he would be interested in dropping by to talk, and even bring boards for folks to try. My view is that this would be a valuable addition to the discussions and experience, but I thought it appropriate to ask if anyone has any negative feelings about it. Comments?

Looks like one stop (or more) to San Diego -- but the fare is cheaper. You can get to San Diego for $109 each way. LAX is $160 each way ... Last time I took a board on Southwest it was $50 each way. The baggage handlers managed to destroy the shoulder strap attachment, but the board survived otherwise ...
5304 70 2006 San O Weekend 67 MonkeyBoy Aug 4, 2006 2006-08-04T09:33:01-0400 Amazing how flights are cheaper flying out of PA to LAX than from Houston....:?
5305 70 2006 San O Weekend 68 mro87 Aug 4, 2006 2006-08-04T09:35:46-0400 From PR is $363.00 round trip (without taxes).
5306 70 2006 San O Weekend 69 mro87 Aug 4, 2006 2006-08-04T09:37:45-0400 I know I'm way too much of a kook to have any standing, but here it goes.... Bing, are you coming?
5307 70 2006 San O Weekend 70 silversurf Aug 4, 2006 2006-08-04T09:40:27-0400 Dallas to LAX is $313, including tax. Trouble is, Southwest flights from Dallas have to stop elsewhere in Tx or an adjacent state on a long-haul flight. So Southwest ain't never cheap here for a long trip (unless Congress revokes the Wright Amendment). That leaves American with about 95 percent of the flights from DFW. Not a lot of incentive for cheap fares when there's only one game in town ... Fares are about the same to San Diego and Orange County. Any advantage in flying in to either of those airports instead of LAX?
5309 70 2006 San O Weekend 71 Bing Aug 4, 2006 2006-08-04T10:22:01-0400 Sorry Mro87, If I'm in California on that weekend I'll be attending the Roxy Womens Long Board Championships At Cardiff. But I would like to see what this rag tag bunch of posters look like. Sounds like fun, take pictures. Bing
5310 70 2006 San O Weekend 72 Guest Aug 4, 2006 2006-08-04T11:30:18-0400 And I can help with refreshments! I have always wanted to see you boys .... and I am going to be there ... and if Bing said he was going to be there .. well I just heard that Rolf and his Dad were spotted recently and maybe we could entice RA to show up ... I can try and contact his girl perhaps ... oh Bing that would be fun wouldn't it? I get too enthusiastic .. and then I get put down and I become crabby ... but I still also say that .. wouldn't it be great if Benny drove his vegie mobile? Is that too expensive to drive a vehicle like that for a far amount? I can drive anyone from Santa Monica. How bout Houston, Texas boys ... oh I think I will go buy some lotto tickets and then we could pay for their airfare.
5311 70 2006 San O Weekend 73 Benny Aug 4, 2006 2006-08-04T11:47:11-0400 Crabsie, I'll definitely be there. And the biomobile is cheaper to run than a big truck like that on anything else I'll even bring a carboy of extra fuel and we can cook something with it...and pour the rest in the tank. Bing, for what its worth, rag-tag is definitely the word for this group, but its great to have you reading along. We're all just having fun surfin' - that's what its all about.

You East coast boys can swing by my place and pick 'em up on your way from Malibu to San O. Just let me know. GT

5319 70 2006 San O Weekend 80 Drumhead Buddha Aug 5, 2006 2006-08-05T05:13:53-0400 i took a 3/2 and a spring last year worked good cause i always had a dry one benny and monkeyboy wore only a speedo and rash guard and said they were fine?
5320 70 2006 San O Weekend 81 Benny Aug 5, 2006 2006-08-05T05:49:45-0400 Yeah, the real trick was getting both of us in that Speedo at the same time. Mro, last year it was windy & the swell was up & I was very comfortable in a 3/2 with long legs & short sleeves. A spring would have been fine too. The year before, same weekend, we were all in trunks. If it looks like warm weather, don't bring anything. You can always go to the Rip Curl outlet 2 exits up the highway and get a whopping deal on some rubber if you need it. Last year, Log Donkey & I got 4/3 Ultimate Elastos (top of the line winter suits) 2 for the (sale) price of one - $210. $105 each. Retail is usually $300+. Spring suits are around $40 there. I always buy something...

What time did you guys -get in line- to get into San-O each morning?
5323 70 2006 San O Weekend 83 Benny Aug 5, 2006 2006-08-05T07:01:56-0400 An hour before it opens on a Saturday and 30-45 minutes before on other days. But that's not just to get in, its also to get a palapa, especially the palapa at Dogpatch

Coupla t-shirts, sandals, pair of jeans, hoodie, one pair boardshorts, your rash guard and springsuit/fullsuit. I think water was like 68 last year and my 3/2 springer was fine. Toothbrush, deodorant, sleeping bag and tent. Wax, board, leash, koozie, shades and sunscreen. There's a Sam's(grocery store not the mega-store) in San Clemente so get a Sam's card and score some munchables for each day at Dogpatch. I like sardines in mustard, bread, thing of creamy peanut butter, blueberry poptarts with frosting, gallon of water and maybe a coupla granny smith's although granny smith's give me the runs but the bathrooms are right there. Make that 2 pair of boardshorts. Restaurants are right there so dinner is a breeze. Sam's again for some White Zin or Tecate and ice to soak in someones cooler and store your beverage of choice. Oh yeah, smokes, lighter and a corkscrew. Oh and don't worry about PeakManster, he is actually an OK guy,,,just a little seasoned. In fact here he is seated when he stopped in town for Pirate Peace Officers Convention. I'm the guy standing Attached files Image processing. Refresh page to view

5346 70 2006 San O Weekend 89 grush Aug 8, 2006 2006-08-08T08:36:48-0400 A practical question: does everyone hang out at one break? And, if so, which one? If my research is correct Dog Patch has a left that works under the right conditions. Anyone want to confirm that? Thanks.
5347 70 2006 San O Weekend 90 little AL Aug 8, 2006 2006-08-08T08:49:53-0400 OK its confirmed, there is a left there, as well as a right, and for g-coast and MB there is also a strait. Last year it was not the most user friendly break on the coast, but some of the guys were getting some great rides, lefts and rights. Wish I could say I was one of those guys, but I was not. grush wrote: A practical question: does everyone hang out at one break? And, if so, which one? 5350 70 2006 San O Weekend 93 little AL Aug 8, 2006 2006-08-08T09:36:37-0400 Well I'm an old fart that likes an easy paddle out, there were not many lulls and the paddle out was not very easy. The younger guys had no problem and made it out more then one time each day. I on the other hand only made it out one time on one day, the waves were kinda closing out and you had a choise. Set inside and get worked by the outside sets or set outside and take the bigger sets and not go anywhere. Too much swell coming from the wrong direction. That happens not much you can do about it. On the other hand just up the coast I did get a few bombs that really worked nice for me, tK to 70sSanO for the call on that one.

I made it out just once to the break and wiped out on my first wave. Man, that wave just dragged me 30 yards underwater. I couldn't make it back out after that, even hanging on to BOSS' leash. We're lucky to be AALLIIVEE ...

I'm going to be working that week in Palm Springs, and will get up at the crack of stupit and drive like a man on speed to get there on Friday morning and surf with ya. We will show them how it should have, could have, might have,or maybe even might be done, if we were just 40 years younger. That does not mean we will not have fun tho does it? I'll see you there Sept. 22ed Doheny in the AM. If you don't remember me, I'm the one with the long blond hair, waist at 23" and chest at 48", I'm like 6'2 and weight 180lbs. I'm on the 7'0 speed stick and looking for young chicks that want a good time. NOT. Looking forward to seeing you there.
