100035 2801 shark attacked a seal in the line up yesterday.. 1 Stef Jul 25, 2016 2016-07-25T13:20:41-0400 Kinda weird because I haven't seen anything of a shark that attacked and killed a seal in the line up yesterday other than 2 friends posts on FB. No news or anything... we have been having a few sightings a week it seems for the past few weeks, the news has been right there - but now we actually had an attack / encounter and now nothing... For the norcal peeps, I was walking down to the south end of linda mar beach to paddle out and I saw everyone ( 40+ people ) getting out of water. I saw my neighbor and asked what's happening shark ? he said yeah, one just attacked a seal and there was a huge pool of blood out there....
100045 2801 shark attacked a seal in the line up yesterday.. 2 xyzzy Jul 25, 2016 2016-07-25T14:37:00-0400 What time was this? I've been out there every morning at dawn.... today was good surf too,.. lots of bait in the water, but havent seen anything. The news report of someone seeing a "six foot white shark jump a couple hundred yards out" last week is dubious at best
100051 2801 shark attacked a seal in the line up yesterday.. 3 Stef Jul 25, 2016 2016-07-25T15:18:02-0400 it was around 11:15 am. I actually went in,I was the only one, I just sat inside. the seal body ended up drifting north , I saw it after i got out. I got out when the police came down to the corner . I was worried that they were going to make me get out. normally the police issue a bulletin after shark sighting but nothing. yeah , lots of 6 to 10 ' sightings , but just sightings nothing serious..about 5 years ago, a 20' plus popped up with a seal in its mouth about 100 yds from shore in front of taco bell - same time of year.
100052 2801 shark attacked a seal in the line up yesterday.. 4 xyzzy Jul 25, 2016 2016-07-25T15:27:02-0400 Damn.. I did see a truck backed down onto the beach this morning loading something into the bed, on the south side around 520am when it was still dark. Seemed odd. I wonder if it was a carcass? Was just me and one other guy out at first daylight,.. saw some seals and humpbacks and bait. I was there the morning with the news casters were trying to do interviews -- when they said it was a six footer and asked what time surfers showed up I just went ahead and paddled out right behind them Certainly had it on my mind sitting out there by myself in 12+ feet of water. Was some good sets though. I'll be back out there tomorrow at dawn..trying to get this 5'9 retro fish going...
100055 2801 shark attacked a seal in the line up yesterday.. 5 Stef Jul 25, 2016 2016-07-25T15:34:26-0400 I doubt it was for the carcass - it was passed Taco Bell - mid parking lot within an hour, probably someone loading something or dropping somethings for one of the houses- they are there and always have been not super worried about it - just stay in tune / be aware if you see a seal acting funny there is probably a reason and maybe a a reason to go in
100059 2801 shark attacked a seal in the line up yesterday.. 6 hankster Jul 25, 2016 2016-07-25T16:05:05-0400 Surfed slightly North of there on Thursday. Saw many dolphins, quite a few breaching. I figured they were the cause of Friday's shark sightings. Hmmm, apparently not.

100099 2801 shark attacked a seal in the line up yesterday.. 8 Surfnfish Jul 26, 2016 2016-07-26T09:06:49-0400 For a couple of decades, while out trolling salmon in his skiff, Dick Keating would often see 'The Old Man' cruising the north tip of Linda Mar, occasionally spotted close to the Wander Inn rock. When we were fishing a hot salmon bite in the early 90's and the fleet was spread out, we had reports coming in of 5 different GW sightings ranging from Martins beach to Sharp Park within the same morning, with different descriptions in size and coloring. In 95', a dead whale floated along the outer breakwater wall in Princeton - harbormaster was following the carcass, taking video of 3 different whites taking chunks out of it, just a hundred yards outside the lineup. Harbormaster was yelling over the bullhorn to clear the water, kids out surfing were flipping him off and kept surfing. And if you know Curt from Powerlines, Mavericks films, ask him about the time he watched me and Chris Libbey get circled by a beast that forced us up onto the rock while we were out surfing Flat Rock alone, while Curt and my son were up on the cliffs changing to join us. The quarter mile paddle in from the rock, going for it after not having seen the beast for half an hour, was the longest paddle of our lives. Curt went back the next afternoon at the same time, took video of a max GW slamming a large seal lion and taking it apart in the lineup. Called my house asked if I wanted to see the footage. "Not as long as I live"..
100101 2801 shark attacked a seal in the line up yesterday.. 9 Stef Jul 26, 2016 2016-07-26T09:22:21-0400 we called the one that use to hang out at the ship wreck off the point, big mo. i have had a few friends chased out of the water on the north end, which is why when this happened and a few people i know headed north, i decided to stay and surf in front of dicks, i am comfortable at the docks, even though obviously they are there. i have however pumped the brakes on surfing in my neighborhood because of all the activity there has been. i don't think there are any more GW than there use to be, I just think there are more people, more cameras and more ways (like this ) to report it.....

Click to expand... I agree with your analysis here. The good news is the shark picked the seal out of sixty or so surfers -- pretty good work! Today was awesome btw -- super glassy, 4 foot, no wind. Probably the best day I've had out there. Had it to myself for like 45 minutes too
100112 2801 shark attacked a seal in the line up yesterday.. 11 Linda Mar Surfer Jul 26, 2016 2016-07-26T11:13:29-0400 Two years ago in late June I was surfing a small wave on the northern end of Grey Whale Cove. I've only been there one other time but it was flat everywhere else and I was looking for anything to surf. It was around 10am, overcast skies. I just paddled back out from catching a small left. As I was sitting up on my board I noticed an object in the water and the water starting to swirl around about 20' to my left side coming diagonally towards shore but not directly towards me. At first I thought it was a ball of kelp then maybe a seal but then the tips of the tail fin and dorsal fin breached the water. By this time it was about 10' away when I picked up my feet and swung my board around. As I hauled ass to the beach it made a big splashed and was gone. It was roughly 7' in length from fin to fin and charcoal grey. I thought I was relatively safe no more than 15 yards from shore and the water was about 4' deep. There was a guy fishing from shore who saw the splash and came up to me as I got out of the water. He didn't see the shark only the splash. I have a feeling the shark didn't even know I was there and it was just cruising along.
100130 2801 shark attacked a seal in the line up yesterday.. 12 Stef Jul 26, 2016 2016-07-26T13:32:22-0400 mike i remember you and i out at the docks the afternoon after that 20' came up in front of taco bell and the seal who kept popping up on the inside of us , that I think finally prompted us to get out. side note : call me - i want to ride that new board
