100011 2756 So.... How old is everyone? 129 nedsurf Jul 25, 2016 2016-07-25T10:33:00-0400 Looking forward to hitting 68 soon, 67 has been a series of injuries and illness and I really want to leave it in the rear view mirror. In the water today for the first time in almost 4 weeks, lung infection. Many good years behind me, many ahead.

99131 2756 So.... How old is everyone? 1 70s SanO Jul 15, 2016 2016-07-15T10:53:32-0400 I've been riding off and on since the late 60's. A lot in the 70's, but spent more time away from it than I thought when I was young. Got back into it big time in the 2000's after our boys saw my boards on the rafters. Messed up my shoulder on a mountain bike a couple years ago, miracle I can paddle at all. I just got back into the water in the past couple of months. And I'm really stoked. I'm 64. John

99244 2756 So.... How old is everyone? 62 poidog Jul 16, 2016 2016-07-16T02:37:13-0400 Here's the funny thing about surfing, for me. Have been obsessed with other sports, wrestling and baseball in particular, to the point where I was able to achieve a certain level of mediocrity (without obsession would've fallen so far short of mediocrity it makes me shudder). Wrestled DIII in college (dog years from II, light years from I; still, won only two more matches than lost, textbook mediocrity, though wouldn't have gone to college otherwise), played baseball until 22, fast-pitch softball (the bomb, once) until 30, slo-pitch until 50. Couldn't get enough of either sport. Now? If I happen to catch an NCAA match while flipping through channels all I can think is, "What was I thinking?" and baseball is groundhog day. Surfing, though. Surfing makes me wake up at one a.m., like it did yesterday, an hour and a half before the alarm, drive three hours to the shore, arriving so early took a nap in the car before paddling out in pre-dawn dimness, which, at first light, revealed itself to be side-shore slop (okay, whatever), though as the tide dropped and the wind switched off-shore it cleaned up considerably, then became glass, through which rolled knee to thigh peaks, lefts or rights, a perfect summer day, time-lapse showing the beach filling up, lifeguards planting flags, umbrellas, kids screaming, friends in the lineup (recognizable, without glasses, by their boards, "Bill? Bill! How the f*ck you been?"), sun rising, steaming off scattered clouds until it was a Tensor lamp, staggered off the beach at 12:30, seven-plus hours of bliss, the only words in the thought bubble above my head being those of gratitude and, without sounding maudlin, a foreshadowing of regret when I can't do this anymore.

Sometimes I'll sleep at my sister's who managed to buy a house right on my homebreak, 1 min walk to the water. So a three hour drive blows my mind. 99310 2756 So.... How old is everyone? 76 FryedGuy Jul 16, 2016 2016-07-16T15:39:03-0400 31... It's no wonder why I ended up taking a liking to you guys. The millennials just don't get it.... Kids these days! There was a video recently about Gerry Lopez living hours from the coast. Waking up far before the break of day to make the long venture from the mountains to the coast and how he appreciated the whole experiance. Being from the east coast, I and many others feel that a lust and longing for waves developes because of a common lack of swell. It's simple really, you want what you can't have. And east coasters want it bad! 3 hours drive to catch waves... Easy. Guys from NJ would drive to Killington(6hours) to get a good day of snowboarding in then drive home that night... Madness! I once caught a dawn patrol in OCNJ then high tailed it to the Ponconos to shred the gnar in the afternoon for a true surf-N-turf delight. For some reason that doesn't sound so appealing to me anymore:?. Maybe it also has something to do with the way people back east live, with their no B.S. work ethics, I wonder how that translates to passion for surf or other things for that matter. In places where waves aren't so illusive, people get surfed out... Come Feb or March, after a long run of swell on the west coast, you can find empty lineups which would have been teaming with surfers just weeks prior. Either way it's all good!!! All hail the gray hairs!!! Thanks for showing us the way!

Well Harry Truman was President when I was born but I don't remember him. Actually I have a tough time remembering my name sometimes... lol. I am encouraged when I see ages in the 70's especially Choked out surfer at 78. Wow! That is impressive. John

Haha, but you probably surf much better then me and I'm 19, so that should make you feel good! As long as the stoke is alive and vibes are well, age shouldn't matter!
