7934 108 2nd Annual JerseyLoggers Log Jam '07 3 T-Bone Mar 19, 2007 2007-03-19T05:12:18-0400 OK, so it's time to form "Team JAM" once again. Last year we only had three members, so we've got to try to make a full 6 man team. The original members were: 1) grush 2) FarEast 3) T-Bone I know I'm in for sure again this year, and hopefully the other two will be as well! Maybe it will be a touch warmer and dryer this year, but that the waves will be as good if not better! JD was the only one to make it out of the first heat last year, so we really want to step up this year and represent better. Who knows maybe we can get enough guys to form a "Team JAM A" and "B". We'll put the ringers on the "A" team, and the kooks such as myself on the "B" team. Well anyway, I know a lot of the other NJ guys here are either members of the Loggers, ot the OLC and various other clubs, but any of you non affiliated RINGERS, I mean SURFERS, let us know and we'll try to put together a full team. Click to expand... actually, we're going to run it a little different this year with regards to an A or B team. since alot of teams had more than 6 and one team in particular had a metric s&*t-ton of people *cough*OLC*cough*, we're going to change the format of scoring a bit. what we are likely to do is just say your top 6 at any point are the scorers. beyond that, the team doesnt score. so if for example, 7 guys from JerseyLoggers place in the early heats, only 6 of them score points regardless of WHO they actually are. the rest still advance, but their places do not count for points (unless of course they are one of the top 6 for their team in the next round). overall this makes it easier to score and keep track of. it also gives your team a better chance of scoring b/c you have all of your guys competing for one team. so if someone has a bad heat but someone else steps up, you can still earn points.
7938 108 2nd Annual JerseyLoggers Log Jam '07 7 Smokey Mar 19, 2007 2007-03-19T07:28:04-0400 How about just making it 6 man teams. We can bring 2 teams, but they get scored seperatly. So it would be OLC and OLC Too.
7939 108 2nd Annual JerseyLoggers Log Jam '07 8 Mantooth Mar 19, 2007 2007-03-19T07:44:06-0400 we tried doing that last year and it got very confusing separating the people and scoring them on different teams. i know it doesnt sound confusing, but in the morning when we are trying to get everyone registered and seeded, it was not easy to do and we ended up throwing the whole concept out. as a result, we just scored anyone who placed. this way will be easiest for us to manage, and it eliminates the advantage of any one team having a ton of really good people.

8096 108 2nd Annual JerseyLoggers Log Jam '07 20 g-unit Mar 23, 2007 2007-03-23T00:38:13-0400 Yeah can you reiterate the team scoring thing that sounds way to complex for me! How bout this? Score the teams top six placing guys overall! Say for example a week team like the olc can only field about forty guys for their team and none of them can find a way to lose before the semis. Just sscore their highest six. Finals score 1st place 20 2nd 17 3rd 15 4the 13 Semis-1 and second place per heat 10 pts each 3-4 place in those heats 7 points each quarters 1-2 place in heat 5 pts 3-4 place in heat 3 pts Aside form that no score! I feel it is fair as you should not be able to score as many points in early heats as later on the competition. The further you get the more points you should earn.

8112 108 2nd Annual JerseyLoggers Log Jam '07 27 TSaunders Mar 23, 2007 2007-03-23T06:22:56-0400 Okay let me explain the team comment. Our team is made up of friends we like to surf with so I was asking about how the contest is because if it is real competitive the team would not be interested but if it is a laid back have fun with your friends surf contest thing they might want to come. Either way Austin and I will try and make it up. With our "March of Dimes" contest in Virginia Beach the team competition is run where you have a team of 6 members. You all go out in the same heat. You are scored with regular ESA rules but they take the best wave scored for each team member and add them together. The winning total wins the division. Very laid back very noncompetitive (sort of). We have no ringers in our division unless you count Jett. Jett has been surfing for over 50 years. At a young 65 Jett still can out surf all of us. He's a machine. That is why he is team captain.
8114 108 2nd Annual JerseyLoggers Log Jam '07 28 T-Bone Mar 23, 2007 2007-03-23T08:39:35-0400 OK, here's my 2 cents worth. First contest I ever entered was last years Log Jam, didn't know what to expect, but went after some encouragement from the folks on this board. Got to meet some of the guys, and was gone after the first heat. My overall impression was that it was a good time to hang out with some good people and watch some good surfing and have some fun. There was definitely some good competitive surfing going on, but it was by no means a completely competitive vibe. Most everybody that went out early watched a little, and then went out and surfed and hung out about 50 yards or so beyond the contest area, or combing the area checking out alot of nice surfboards, would be great to have a few of those "Austins" to look at! Overall vibe was surfing with your friends and having fun, not super serious and ultra competitive, but there was definitely some good competition going on. T
8116 108 2nd Annual JerseyLoggers Log Jam '07 29 g-unit Mar 23, 2007 2007-03-23T10:24:07-0400 we want good competition but not competitive! It is a FUN contest and we were psyched to see so many guys hang around and go to the after party at the bar. It is meant to be a fun day. I had a blast and i was out in the first round. We dont really have ringers NJL is messingwith all of us because Corbit who wasnt really a P.C. guy did ride for them and youknow what it didnt hurt the comp at all. He surfed well and didnt upset the way it would have been anyway. Christ someone had to compete with the mighty jersey power house known as OLC. And god knows it wasnt us and still wont be. we dont run the contest towin it we run it for all the other stuff that happens during the day. Good surfing..friends(new and old), boards and to raise the overall awareness/visibility of longboarding and the art of longboarding. It is in our home town and we love to show it off to everyone. Please bring everyone you want! T-Bone i remember you were very aprehensive but entered and hung around and that was the vibe we were looking for! Hope others follow your lead! Its the most redickulious thing , Most N.J. towns make you buy a tag/badge to sit on the beach during the summer months, I myself have never bought one, In my younger days I was paid to sit on the beach, (lifegaurd), now-a days, when I hang on the beach (sundays) I go to one of the few beaches that dont require them.

The beach tag thing is a hard nut to swallow, but in defense of the municipalities that charge a beach fee, it is a way of spreading the cost of lifegaurds, and beach cleaning to those that use the sand, and not be an added tax burden to the property owners that don't use it. Just look at whats on our beaches these days, the manpower, the stands, surf boats, jet skies, medics, 4X4's, the trucks and equipment used to clean them every morning......the costs are unbelievable..... as far as federal tax dollars being used to pump sand, our federal tax dollars go to pay for many things we don't directly benefit from, like paying mid-western farmers not to grow certain crops, or to build dams on rivers that don't flood our homes. Then there's welfare, food stamps, heating assistance, and all the other entitlements that none of us ever benefit from. I'm not a fan of sand pumping because it's a waste of money, and usually destroys established breaks, and I think the money could be better spent on other projects that would work long term to preserve our beaches....like the geo-tube reefs they are using in New Zealand, the protect the beach from serious errosion, and provide great waves to ride at the same time..... Now that my little rant is over.....back to the business of a longboard contest.....

Well obviously I am not smart enough to be in charge, because I had completely missed your original post DUH! I'm not too bright, and I doesn't surf to well. (not an english major either) :? I say that whoever is interested, we'll all put our team down as "longboard.net" on the application, and when we get there if we get enough guys, we all surf as a team, and then the top 6 scores will count and we'll have a shot at doing something in the team competition. Mucker, NJL, grush, T-bone, fareast(?), MonkeyBoy, Tator & or whoever else needs a team. Maybe even the Saunders boys will lower there standards a hair (OK a lot) and join us Jersey / PA boys? The more the merrier!

Click to expand... I believe I can answer that one for you G-Unit..... I assume you are aware of the famous group of Longboarders that go by the name of the OLC.....(Offshore Longboard Club)..... The organization is under the direction of a heavy handed ruler that occupies the OLC thrown, this type of ruler is often reffered to as a "Dictator". Now "Dick" being the first sylibol in the word, and also the common nickname of those named "Richard", and "Tator" being the last sylibol, you get "Richard Tator"..... Now as most Dictators are usually cruel, and demanding, our leader is a kind and generous man, but quite frankly I'am getting a little tiered of having to bow, kiss his ring, and address him as "My Lord"....... However, I'm mearly just the club's water boy, and really shouldn't complain since he has graciously allowed a kook like me into the organization......
