54415 569 Surf Cliches that need to die 90 pefa Dec 5, 2013 2013-12-05T07:11:42-0500 Chilly Willy wrote: Here's something cliche: I've been noticing a reoccurring phenomenon of surf video clips where the first 75% of the video is footage of traveling to the beach, driving, suiting up slowly, waxing, etc. I know "the journey" is a big part of the surf experience, but sometimes you just want to see some surfing, damnit! I say cut to the chase. If you REALLY want to include footage of suiting up and waxing, at least do it at 3x speed so we don't have to sit through it all, maybe with the Benny Hill theme overdubbed and a star wipe transition into the surfing footage. Really though, it seems that most surf shorts have 75% traveling, 10% surfing, then 15% closing credits. (And 200% horrible indie rock as the soundtrack.) (Edit: I've got to admit that when I first got a digital camera, I started making little film shorts just to try it out. One of my first shorts was exactly this cliche, but worse. It was 90% driving to the beach, 10% putting on my wetsuit, and I just stuck some music over top of it. LAME!!! Way to blueball the audience with everything leading up to surfing, but no actual surfing.) Click to expand... i second this one, kinda reminds me of the pool guy showing up knocking on the door at the beginning of a porn flick......
