50307 542 The Joel Tudor vs. Joe Aaron thing 29 surflugen Aug 5, 2013 2013-08-05T12:15:12-0400 I met Joe as a kid and did a little interview with him on the beach because I had a couple of good photos I just took. He wanted to grow up and be just like Joel. Thing is, back then, Joel was not that far removed from still using hp longboard in competitions, but he was moving towards heavy traditional equipment (or so I gathered from following longboarding). Back to that interview, JA seam so stoked on longboarding and it was very infectious. I ran into him again a day later at Harbour and met the parents. They were selling the Groms Rule line of stuff they were promoting (JA's artwork which they had to change from Surfer Joe because they did know know someone from the area had trademarked that name) and his parents, as you have all read already, were a piece of work. Definite "back stage parents" that were showing their kid how be be a hustler in the surfing business, of which they said to me, they had no idea about before pushing Joe's talents on the world. At that moment, I felt very sorry for Joe.
