36058 430 Some stuff I have been working on. 32 EcBob Feb 12, 2012 2012-02-12T08:44:31-0500 I heard a great interview with a black author one morning last year during Black History Month and I wish I could find it, but he was saying (and he may be wrongly speaking for all blacks here) that the reason the "N" word had become so prevalent over the years amongst them culturally was to remove the sting. He went into a long diatribe, but it boiled down to the fact that they were able to let go of it by using it. I can understand this board being a regional thing. I have lived in VA all my life and mainly in a rural area of Va Beach called Pungo. Growing up here and spending a lot of time in NC I have become so accustomed to seeing the Rebel Flag that I associate with region more than anything historical. I know black guys who have flown them at their houses or worn them on T Shirts. Its just part of the area, but like I said above in an earlier poatI am surprised that there hasn't been someone upset by it locally. Va Beach is highly transient and not all are so accustomed to seeing it.
