335839 20655 The Death of Surfing 59 gigamots Jan 21, 2025 2025-01-21T18:01:07-0500 At the risk of triggering some of our more sensitive members, it really does come down to economics... Waves are an amazing and finite resource, yet they have only gotten cheaper. Financial costs: declining ($99 foamie at a Walmart near you!) Social costs: declining (nobody gonna heckle you anymore) Physical costs: declining (that buttery Yamomoto rubber, Gath/Oakley/whatever brain bucket, floatation devices...) Want fewer crowds? Make the waves more expensive...or seek out more expensive waves (NIHI Sumba, Abu Dhabi surf mecca, [redacted super secret surf gang controlled spot], Iceland, whatever)...it's capitalism, baby
