I have lived all over the country and worked in every state except Hawaii and Alaska.  Everywhere has it trade offs.  Since there is a bit of a Texas theme here i will say my wife is a Texan born and raised in Temple / Waco so i spend a lot of time there as well so i feel i have good perspective.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYes California is too expensive across all fields.  I estimate it would cost my family roughly $40k less a year for the same standard of living in Texas ( house, schools, gas, food, taxes, day care...etc..)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBut for me currently the extra $40k is worth it.  We have lucked out and found a good neighborhood with good people, a great elementary school, and 20 minutes from either excellent surfing or desert hiking and mountain bike trails.  I also have my elderly mother near by which is amazing for my kids and They have built a strong relationship.  And the weather is amazing as all know.  I lived in the midwest for a while and those winters i never want to go back to.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIts all about personal situations i think.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf i did not surf, made less money ( i am not rich nor have a trust fund... I never went to college and built debt and i have worked my whole life and earned what i have), did not have family here.... i would leave the California coast for sure.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLike said everyone is unique and California is worth the cost to me currently.\n        \n\n\nClick to expand...\n\n\n\n\nYup, O'Side is my home. For me,it's the best location on the planet. I would either come back there or go to Ventura and bring my foil so \n@icecreamheadache\n and I can become fast friends LOL....but in all seriousness, money isn't a concern for me as much as being left alone to do my own thing and candidly, since politics have been brought up in jest, so I can keep my current firearm situation without all the BS hassle. I use them to make a part of my living and my connections out there may still allow that. I have some research to do if i am to consider it....and right now it's just fun talk for me and my wife. But, BUT, every time we have these \"what if\" talks, something comes to fruition. We homeschool, so public/private schools are no concern. Housing is the main thing and the rest, IMO, is comparable to everywhere else. Hell, my county in the \"great state of Texas\" now has emissions laws equivalent to CA. Like, WTF, over? I mean, there are still many counties one can live and avoid it, which I do because we own a house in the neighboring county and rent where we live, but still it is creeping it's way over here.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAnyways, lots to think about. I appreciate the input. Enjoy the surf! I always surfed the Harbor, Rivermouth, or Terramar. Occasionally, depending on swell direction and time of year, I would be down at Pipes. I also scored some really good solo sessions at the Cliffs in Cbad a few times. People overlook that spot way too much."]], "columns": ["post_id", "thread_id", "thread_title", "post_number", "author_username", "post_date", "post_date_iso", "post_body"], "primary_keys": ["post_id"], "primary_key_values": ["299382"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.794359999417793, "license": "Public Domain"}
