Those kids boards.\n        \n\n\nClick to expand...\n\n\n\n\nFirewire is using the same tech we developed w/sailboards.\n\n\n\nThe materials they use are widely available for cheap in Asia.\n\n\n\nThe EPS that makes  for their cores are dirt cheap when bought in large quantity.\n\n\n\nNobody knows what quality of EPS they are using because nobody ever sees it.\n\n\n\nThe machined blanks and vac bagging eliminates a lot of hand labor.\n\n\n\nI have expressed to the cnc guys that an inflatable drum or similar to a soft pad, could be a auto change out\n\n\n\nduring the CNC cutting process to all but eliminate the need for hand scrubbing aka finish shaping.\n\n\n\nPerhaps a little hand work @ nose & tailback, but no need to remove ridges from cnc cuts.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMy guess for the actual per unit cost of a Firewire is somewhere between $29 to $37. \n\n\n\nI'm probably pretty close to the truth, it might even be lower.\n\n\n\nThe rest of what they charge per unit considered as cost goes into marketing & of course cost of their building, which they \n\n\n\nprobably bought and own.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheir ability to land boards all said and done for less than $150  stateside equates to an efficient operation with a healthy bottom line\n\n\n\nrealizing a good profit while flooding the market throughout CA and elsewhere.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nI'm not saying his is right or wrong, I'm just calling a spade a spade.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThey painted a story that they wanted to use the very best materials & be sustainable and eco friendly\n\n\n\nand in doing so could not economically build inside the USA and have it be worth their while.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAll businesses are in business to make money and this is their reality.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you like their product buy it, if you don't like it, or anything I've said here & feel there is a degree of truth\n\n\n\nin what I say that you find objectionable, then don't.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe same can be applied to me or anyone else making surfboards.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPolitics aside:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe buck stops with you."]], "columns": ["post_id", "thread_id", "thread_title", "post_number", "author_username", "post_date", "post_date_iso", "post_body"], "primary_keys": ["post_id"], "primary_key_values": ["223274"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.6423899994842941, "license": "Public Domain"}
