I was out on that pier pre-dawn that morning and climbed up the stairs to the deck of the weather station at the outside end of the pier looking for an interesting angle for a sunrise shot. While I'm looking thru the view finder, a big set comes thru and the station starts swaying wildly. I got down fast and woozy.  I thought it was connected to the pier but it's on 3 separate pilings that r 8 feet higher than the pier and only 18-20 inches apart. Now I'm wondering how it has lasted so long. (probably mesmerized as to what was happening before his eyes.) So anyways, I had to show how high the wave actually was before it broke. (here I am designating that. I had just come out of the tube after hanging all that I had to hang, and then some. \n\n\n\nRight here I was doing a hard \"cutty\" back into the wave for the reform, nearly ripped the covering right off the board!!\n\n\n\nAt the end of all this extraordinary display of grace balancing power, I sauntered with all of my humbleness upon the beach, yet being trounced with all of the accolades of other surf photographers and HOT chicks. NFW for this Florida boy. And a ride like that is not so bad - wish I had some shots of me doing that. Oh wait, I'd have to actually \ndo\n it first. I have some great video of me buzzsawing another guy's board last year at Playa Grande. Looks like I had all day to turn, but it felt like a microsecond. Mind you, I kinda lost it on the takeoff and the dude made no effort to paddle behind the curl and then dove off his board, leaving it broadside right below me. Still, there's something about all that spped a quad can generate heading straight down a wave with a 210 lb rider. Put about a six-inch slice in the tail of that board. I felt guilty anyway and paid for the repair and his rental. But that video just looks awful. I should post it on Youtube. Then again, no. If you look closely at the bottom turn one you will see the nose scar where I have broken it a long time ago and patched it up.
